The amount of people out of work and the need for personal protective equipment are both at an all-time high
The COVID-19 outbreak will undoubtedly render millions jobless for the months to come, but there is no lack of work in the US right now. As the need for medical supplies surges on, it's also clear that there is no lack of consumerism in personal protective equipment industries. Because of the high demand and low supply, companies are selling out of inventory even at heightened costs.
If we accept the concept of wartime manufacturing and reallocate efforts to building PPE, we can strengthen our fight against COVID-19 and support American workers
Today we are announcing our Project Planet Pods COVID-19 PPE production fundraiser. We will aim to put independent contractors and local businesses to work in producing personal protective equipment. As a response to the Australia Wildfires, we started Project Planet Pods as our initiative to relieve those affected by the crises and empower those in battle to overcome. We believe this same approach can work for the COVID-19 pandemic.
We're fundraising because the production will be handmade, not automated
Knowing that much of this creation is not automated, businesses may struggle to pay for monthly expenses as the production rate will likely exceed the final product cost. Our fund will bridge this gap and avoid price gouging hospitals for handmade products to cover production costs. We will work with local businesses to pay living wages without overcharging our end consumer.
